Burna Boy hits two billion streams in UK, becomes first African to get a plaque for his feat

Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Damini Ogulu popularly known in music circles as Burna Boy has emerged as the first African artist to reach two billion streams in the United Kingdom.

During his sold-out performance at Koko Camden in London on Monday night, the Grammy award-winning singer was honored with a Brit plaque in acknowledgment of the achievement.

This honor comes just a few weeks after the ‘Ye’ crooner was given a Brit 1 billion streaming plaque during his sold-out London Stadium event last month.

In a video making the rounds on social media, the man who handed over the award plaque complimented the Burna Boy on his work both domestically and overseas.

While receiving his Brit 2 billion streams plaque, Burna Boy revealed that he fought for it.

He said, “Thank you very much. I appreciate you. Ehen, now that’s it. You’ve to fight for your right.”

One of the presenters inferred: “You already have it. You don’t need to fight.”

But Burna Boy rebuffed saying: “No. You know, we have to fight for our rights.”
