The Department of Mass Communication at the Plateau State University, Bokkos, today, July 15, 2024 held a special orientation programme for its newly admitted students. The event which was organized to welcome and integrate new students into the University community was well attended by distinguished invited guests, lecturers and students alike.
In his opening remarks, the Head of Department, Dr Adeyanju Apejoye reiterated the Department’s commitment to engendering a more conducive environment for its students to pick up successful and befitting careers in the media and communication industry. Apejoye took the new students through what the Department and the University expect of them in relation to academics and character. He encouraged them to invest their time and other resources to become the best they had wished for the benefit of their families and society at large.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Ishaya Dashol in his address congratulated the students on their admission and encouraged them to work hard to achieve their academic goals. Represented by Associate Professor Andrew Dewan who is the Director of Advancement and Linkages of the University, the Dean emphasized the importance of balancing academic and extracurricular activities. Dashol reeled out a number of PLASU alumni who have distinguished themselves internationally in their chosen careers while encouraging the new students to strive for greatness.
Reacting separately, the new students expressed gratitude to the Department for putting up an instructive programme to academically and socially acclimatize them with the University Community. One of the new student, Patience Philip while speaking to our correspondent could not hide her excitement about the programme. Philip expressed confidence that as new students, the orientation had made them better prepared to face the daunting task of learning that lies before them. “We feel more confident and better committed to start this academic journey. The orientation was informative and fun!” She cheerfully said.
The event featured orientation lectures from the University’s Bursar, Librarian, Chief Medical Director, Dean, Students Affairs, Director, ICT., Chief Security Officer and the Head of psychological Services, each highlighting the various expectations peculiar to their areas of services.
With the successful orientation programme, the coast is now clear for the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new students. The Department of Mass Communication at the Plateau State University, Bokkos is committed to nurturing the next generation of media professionals.
